frequently asked questions
"what is aba & what does it treat?"
Applied Behavior Analysis, otherwise known as "ABA therapy," is the foremost approach for addressing developmental challenges linked to Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and ADHD. Furthermore, it can also be effective for treating behavior disorders, substance abuse, and general behavioral challenges. This makes ABA a versatile and effective tool across various populations and age groups.
Through its concentration on behavior, ABA therapy enhances learning and skills related to functional living. This includes daily and social living skills, along with communication and impulse control.
In regards to autism, ABA can assist with treating dysgraphia, dyspraxia, alexithymia, non-verbal & verbal communication, daily living skills, fine/gross motor skills, executive functioning skills, improved behavior in the community, as well as help reduce maladaptive behaviors overall.
In regards to ADHD, ABA can assist with hyperfocus, rejection sensitive dysphoria (RSD), and impulsivity. ABA therapy can also assist individuals with increasing organizational and executive functioning skills.

"how does aba work & is it covered by insurance?"
Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy uses learning theory to condition positive behavioral changes. ABA involves assessing behavior and creating tailored interventions to teach new skills and reduce problematic behaviors.
Techniques include positive reinforcement to encourage desired behaviors, as well as prompting and fading to build independence. Data collection ensures interventions are effective.
Insurance typically approves coverage for ABA services as long as the diagnosis is related to ASD, developmental or intellectual disabilities, and/or cases of severe behaviors linked to ADHD & ODD. Coverage is based on ABA services being deemed a "medical necessity."

how do i know treatment is working?
Practitioners determine if ABA treatment is working by monitoring measurable improvements in the individual's targeted behaviors and skills. Regular data collection and analysis during therapy sessions help track progress objectively.
As a parent, look for consistent progress toward the goals outlined in the personalized treatment plan, such as increased communication, social interaction, and reduced problematic behaviors.
Additionally, feedback from caregivers and other professionals involved in the individual's life, can provide valuable insight related to whether positive changes have been observed.
Regular reviews and adjustments to the treatment plan also ensure that interventions remain effective and aligned with the individual's evolving needs.
WHat are the initial steps to treatment?
The initial steps to treatment with Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy begin with a phone call today. After collecting some basic information, a comprehensive assessment of the individual's behavior, skills, and needs is scheduled. This assessment is conducted by a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) through observations, interviews with caregivers, and standardized tests.
Based on the gathered data, a personalized treatment plan is developed, outlining specific goals and targeted behaviors for improvement. The plan includes strategies for teaching new skills and reducing problematic behaviors.
In the case of working with insurance, a diagnostic report no older than 2 years is required. This report, along with the BCBA's assessment and treatment plan are submitted to your insurance company. Typically treatment is authorized within a week and sessions can begin.
Therapy sessions are scheduled based on the client's availability. Trained therapists then implement the assigned interventions, closely monitor progress, and make necessary adjustments over time, to ensure its efficacy.
Insurance requires that the child be reassessed every 6 months and a new treatment plan is submitted to them.
